Nuvo Responds To Prostitution Bust

News reports yesterday about the bust of an IMPD officer and his wife for running a prostitution business out of their home in Greenwood stated that the couple advertised their business in Indy's weekly alternative newspaper, Nuvo. Blogger Ruth Holladay raised questions about Nuvo's responsibility for advertising such businesses. Nuvo's Editor Laura McPhee issued this statement this morning in response to the news reports, which essentially says the newspaper did nothing wrong or illegal:

NUVO was as surprised as those in the general public last night when news broke that an Indianapolis police officer and his wife have been arrested for allegedly operating a prostitution ring from their Greenwood home.

While Lori Vernon-Lee has been an advertising client of NUVO for several years, no employee of NUVO had any knowledge that Ms. Vernon and her husband were violating both Indiana State Law and their advertising contract with NUVO by running ads for prostitution.

“While we support the right of individuals to seek adult entertainment, we also abide by the Indiana State Law that prohibits advertising any business that exchanges sex for money,” said NUVO Publisher Kevin McKinney in response to the arrests.

  1. Have we already convicted these people? NUVO's statement appears to accept the husband and wife's guilt.

  2. Nuvo is hardly a pillar of Indianapolis current moral standards...thank goodness!

  3. If you believe that Nuvo doesn't know that their "escort" clients aren't prostitutes, then I've got some really prime swamp land in Florida I would like to sell you real cheap.

  4. Nuvo says they stand for "social justice", funny that so many of their ads look like prostitution.

Funny, as in hilarious. Liberal twits foaming at the mouth over injustice while taking money for sleazy ads.

  5. It speaks volumes for Indianapolis that the only escort service advertized in our phone directory is for oversize loads. Other cities have pages devoted to this "adult service". Sheesh! Are we EVER going to grow up? Nuvo's only sin is that they are trying to drag the city, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century. OK, so maybe the signs at the edge of town don't say Sodom or Gomorrah; but they shouldn't be insulting the intelligence of visitors by calling Indianapolis a "world-class city' either.
