Murders Heat Up In Indy
There have been nine homicides in Indianapolis during the past 11 days. That's a substantial uptick in the City's homicide rate for the year. According to Bart Lies, the City has recorded 60 homicides for the year, or about 1 every 3 days. At that rate, the City will reach 116 homicides by year's end, which is well below the record number of 162 reached in 1998 and the 153 recorded in 2006.
It's really hard to predict how many murders will happen by the end of this year. I read a study a few years ago that showed that murder rates increase as temperatures get hotter, thus the rate in the warm months is much higher than in the cold months.
ReplyDeleteAdd to that growing economic problems (which also leads to more murders) and we could possibly see a murder every other day for the rest of the summer if not the rest of the year.
Ah, Indianapolis, at least 1 times higher than the per capita national average for Murder, Forcible Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Violent Crimes, Burglary, Larceny/Theft, Car Theft, Arson, and Property Crimes.
