Too Little Too Late For Orentlicher?
His supporters breathed a sigh of relief when State Rep. David Orentlicher launched his first TV ad today with just three weeks left before the election. Dr. Woody Myers, by comparison, went up on the air immediately following the March 11 special election and has maintained that presence for the past five weeks. The general consensus is that Myers' ads and direct mail pieces have been very effective in positioning him as the Democratic alternative to U.S. Rep. Andre Carson. What few press releases the Orentlicher campaign has put out have earned little coverage for his campaign. Reviews for Orentlicher's first TV ad have been mixed at best. The ads attempt to use humor in the difficulty people have in pronouncing his last name. This seems a bit odd when you consider that Orentlicher has run TV and radio ads in this market in several prior hotly-contested House races, and his name recognition is already pretty high. The ad also invites discussion of the sexually-offensive play on his name I've heard uttered many times in the past. If Orentlicher's objective is to convince voters to take him and his candidacy seriously, this ad probably misses the mark.
At this point in the campaign, Carolene Mays and David Orentlicher are battling for 3rd place...
