Heavy Hitters Lined Up For Federalist Society Gala
The Federalist Society is celebrating its 25th Anniversary at its annual lawyers convention Nov. 15-17 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. No fewer than four U.S. Supreme Court justices will participate. It's hard to overstate the influence of the group. Chief Justice John Roberts is scheduled to deliver the Barbara K. Olson Memorial Lecture on November 16. Justices Samuel Alito, Jr., Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas will speak at a gala dinner at Union Station. There are many other prominent federal judges and professors lined up to speak at the convention as well. Among the topics to be covered are: the role of religion in public debate; the independence of federal prosecutors; the labor movement; property rights; immigration and amnesty; amending federal and state constitutions to prohibit sex discrimination; and the War on Terror.
Fun to know that our own Hoosier, David McIntosh, started this group when he was a bright young law student. Many key Indianapolis lawyers are active with this group today, making a positive contribution toward real balance in the legal world. Will you attend, Gary?
ReplyDeleteClarence Thomas anywhere near a podium is scary.
ReplyDeleteScalia, Roberts don't scare me. They have realistic expectations and know their view of the Constitution is not the only view.
Clarence Thomas, no mental giant, actually thinks his view is superior and singular.
I just finished his new book. The man is dillusional, at best.
