NBA Rebukes Hardaway For Anti-Gay Comments

NBA Commissioner David Stern is wasting no time hitting back against former NBA All Star Tim Hardaway for saying he hates gay people. He has been banned from attending this weekend's All Star game in Las Vegas, as well as any future work for the NBA. That has forced Hardaway to apologize for his comments and do a little self-evaluation. WZZM in Grand Rapids, Michigan reports:

Former NBA All Star Tim Hardaway is apologizing for comments he made recently on a radio program in Miami.

Hardaway said quote, "I hate gay people. Let it be known, I don't like gay people.

"The NBA has banned Hardaway from this weekend's All-Star game festivities in Las Vegas.

NBA commissioner, David Stern, explained why, "We acted immediately, we told him he couldn't do anymore work for us because his views don't represent our views."Stern went on to say, "Our mission statement and dialogue is an important aspect especially dialogue about ignorance and bigotry. We're happy to perform the public service, not as a black eye."

Hardaway's original comments were in response to a question about John Amaechi. Amaechi is the first NBA player to say publicly that he's gay.

Given Hardaway's reaction to Amaechi's acknowledgement he's gay, it's quite understandable why professional athletes typically wait until they retire before coming out of the closet.

Yeah, he sounds retarded. But, hey, he's a jock. How many jocks has anyone known to be a genious? One? None? I don't understand why this is even a stroy. He's stupid. He's a jock. Now that I'm on this subject, I think it's retarded everytime I hear someone say, "Kids look up to these people as role models." Give me a break. I never did.

Try not to throw back the same stereotypes Hardaway threw out.

    It's ignorant.
