Stop This Man, Before It's Too Late
For those of you who are regular visitors to this blog, you'll no doubt already be familiar with Sen. Jeff Drozda (R-Westfield). The extremist conservative legislator recently announced his intention to introduce legislation during the next session of the Indiana General Assembly to ban gays and lesbians from adopting and fostering children. The Indiana Court of Appeals recently upheld the right of same-sex couples to adopt children under Indiana's Adoption Act. The best interests of the child, not the sexual orientation of the parents, should be the determining factor according to the Court of Appeals. Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter is appealing the court ruling to the Indiana Supreme Court.
It is imperative that you let Indiana lawmakers know how you feel about this fundamental right. To aid you in this effort, Advance Indiana Editor Gary R. Welsh will be making available petitions for you to sign to express your disapproval of Sen. Drozda's efforts to write discrimination into Indiana law against gays and lesbians. Please stop by Gary's booth at the Pride Festival in University Park on Saturday to say hello and sign the petition.
