First, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) re-affirmed his support for 7th District Congressperson Julia Carson after her openly gay Democratic primary opponent, Kris Kiser, left the impression Frank and the openly lesbian Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) were supporting his candidacy in an interview he had with The Word. In yet another blow to Kiser's campaign, word now comes that Rep. Frank will appear at a political fundraiser in Rep. Carson's honor on April 17, 2006, at the Miller Centre, 422 W. Michigan Street, Indianapolis from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Ticket prices range from $250-$500. Persons interested in attending should contact Melissa at 317-231-6700 and make their checks payable to: Julia Carson for Congress.
Bringing Barney Frank to Indy is a blow to Miss Carson's opponent? Says who? Lighten up, Advance...last I checked, it's still a free country, notwithstanding this Justice Dept.'s warped view of civil rights...and anyone can run for Congress. Rep. Frank is one of only two openly-gay House members. Has anyone stopped to think, that maybe, just MAYBE, he likes being a big fish in a small lake? I say: may his tribe multiply, and we elect more and more openly-gay qualified candidates. Miss Carson's opponent is completely qualified and educated. Frank Handley 4-11-06
ReplyDeleteMr. Handley--it is a blow to Kiser when you consider that he claimed that he consulted with Frank about his run against Carson and left the impression Frank encouraged his candidacy. When Frank learned of this, he immediately distanced himself from Kiser and re-affirmed his support for Carson, and now he is coming to Indy to help her raise money to erase any doubts who he is supporting. It wouldn't be a big deal if Kiser hadn't suggested he had Frank's support to begin with.
