To the not-so-religious Right, a same-sex couple kissing in public is an abomination...

The writer of the above comment obviously has never been to a local gay-rights rally at City Hall or the Statehouse - LGBT folk dont do the silly off-putting stuff it speculates about. Get up your courage, stop hiding behind anonymous carping and join us as an outraged taxpayer and protest!Wilson46201https://www.blogger.com/profile/14214029150233485312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-82869072840628549272007-02-09T06:18:00.000-05:002007-02-09T06:18:00.000-05:00Lincoln wept. And our voices in the legislature focus on getting a couple of words changed or a comma added.

This thing should not even see the light of day in the House. But it will. And we must strongly oppose it.

Our strategy? Focus on changing a few words. Oh yeah, and a rally next week at the Statehouse, headlined by Candace Gingrich.

Here's a bet that the rally will include many of the scenes displayied at Pride parades around the country. Which will further enrage the far-right.

We need to clean up our act and show up as ordinary taxpaying citizens at the Statehouse rally to revolt!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-14766338193992769892007-02-08T17:03:00.000-05:002007-02-08T17:03:00.000-05:00Amen,Jeff. The bit about SJR7 being written by constitutional scholars is a laugh, not because of their knowledge and competence, but because, as Gary says, they are right wing ideologs. No wonder, when their pet Federal Marriage Amendment, which closely tracks SJR7 was changed to delete "state law", they decided NOT to reflect that in SJR7, which keeps the term "Indiana law". When the FMA was changed, the Concerned Women of America and others of the nuttier right hollered loudly because all admitted it would now let state legislatures enact civil union legislation and/or bestow similar benefits. . They wanted no part of this "immorality". Senator Hershman's colleagues, cut from the same cloth, kept the term in SJR7, but now keep denying that the legislature, not just "unelected activist judges" would be legally castrated. They should be asked pointed questions on this central issue.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-87480017987024946892007-02-08T16:52:00.000-05:002007-02-08T16:52:00.000-05:00Oops, I didn't word that right--it WILL be on the ...Oops, I didn't word that right--it WILL be on the ballot in '08 if the House doesn't amend it.

As political strategy, allowing this amendment to go to the voters is about the dumbest f***ing thing the dems can do if you ask me.

The fundies will come out of the woodwork, and they ain't a-gonna be votin' fer no Democrats.

With the Marriage Discrimination Amendment on the ballot, soon-to-be Speaker Bosma will be relishing the opportunity to thank Bauer for keeping his seat warm.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-74945549749008494112007-02-08T16:37:00.000-05:002007-02-08T16:37:00.000-05:00Not so fast, Wilson--this thing still has to go th...Not so fast, Wilson--this thing still has to go through the Democratic controlled Indiana House, of which a large number of Dems voted wrong the last time. And Bauer is on record saying he's going allow it to come up for a vote this time around.

The question is, will he allow it to be amended? If he doesn't, then we are all but guaranteed to see this miserable thing on the ballot in 2008.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-84259461074973911272007-02-08T16:17:00.000-05:002007-02-08T16:17:00.000-05:00With the Indiana Republican Party utterly dominati...With the Indiana Republican Party utterly dominating the Indiana Senate, did anybody seriously expect anything else besides this all too predictable travesty?

Lincoln wept...Wilson46201https://www.blogger.com/profile/14214029150233485312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-81412064172093034872007-02-08T15:53:00.000-05:002007-02-08T15:53:00.000-05:00A true embarrassment.
