State Representative John Day Announces Retirement Plans

State Rep. John Day (D-Indianapolis) announced today that he will not seek re-election next year to his newly-drawn district, which is a heavily Democratic district. Day has been a member of the Indiana House of Representatives since 1974, except for a two-year period from 1995-96 when Marty Womacks narrowly defeated him during the 1994 Republican watershed election. Democratic City-County Councilor Brian Mahern has been speculated in the past as a possible candidate to replace Day when he retired. Mahern was recently by the Democratic caucus to serve as its Majority Leader next year when Democrats take control of the newly-elected council.

  1. John Day has played the game well, been a great Democratic Party hack, and will now be awarded with a comfortable retirement.
