When I heard the question I was SURE he was going to mention that.

The question about what committee would they want to be on was pretty stupid - Don't Freshman congressmen get ASSIGNED to a committee by the party leadership. They may ask for a certain one but they usually start at the bottom and work their way up.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-67264871952135393532008-03-06T21:48:00.000-05:002008-03-06T21:48:00.000-05:00anon 9:29, I know that Lugar was worth about a mil...anon 9:29, I know that Lugar was worth about a million dollars went he went to the Senate in 1977. Today's he worth a little more than $2 million. Evan Bayh went into government about a decade later owning a $50,000 condo in downtown Indy and a used BMW. He's now worth at least $15 million. The farm program change you reference personally benefitted the Lugar family very little and was a benefit which accrued to many similarly-situated family farms. How many people got in on all the insider stock deals and cozey corporate board appointments Evan and Susan have benefitted from? There's nothing remotely similar to the path Lugar has taken on these matters while in government service compared to the self-serving, self-enriching path Bayh has chosen.Gary R. It enriched him and his family business substantially.

It was written in that familiar Senate language that indicates a certain company, of a certain size, without naming the company. But it was Lugar's family firm, the Thomas L. Green Co. I believe their product was dairy equipment, but I could be wrong.

He also served on the IPS Board while that district criminally ignored inner-city schools, which started white flight.

He also began a program of ignoring public employee pension long-term obligations, in full or in part, which was carried through to 2005. The cumulative effect---well, we'll be paying for it for a long time. The cure involved legislative intervention and more taxes.

I am very thankful for Lugar's international experience and the respect commanded on that front. The work he did with former Sen. Nunn on nuclear nonproliferation was ground-breaking (and co-sponsored last year in its continuation phase, by that new senator from Illinois, Barack Obama).

But let's not make him a saint just yet, huh?

That said, I am glad he did this endorsement for Jon. It should help Jon, who alrady has my vote.

I just grow weary of the lofty Lugar claims...a throwback to reality is sometimes needed.

(Stepping off soapbox)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-81314629361783616192008-03-06T21:23:00.000-05:002008-03-06T21:23:00.000-05:009:05, Andre Carson accepted money from one America...9:05, Andre Carson accepted money from one American Muslim who the US Government has identified as having ties with terrorist groups. There presumably are others that have given Carson money but that information sgould be forthcoming in a couple of days.
As a disclaimer, Carson's campaign manager did advise Carson to send that one contributor's money back which Carson did, although reluctantly.
Needless to say, I will not be voting for Carson now. Some things can be overlooked but this can't.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-8256253427665348732008-03-06T21:05:00.000-05:002008-03-06T21:05:00.000-05:00Does Andre have ties with terrorists?Does Andre have ties with terrorists?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12703782.post-26901430027526593052008-03-06T20:19:00.001-05:002008-03-06T20:19:00.001-05:00An excellent mail piece!
