Troy Riggs Bails As Public Safety Director

This isn't real surprising. Mayor Greg Ballard's Public Safety Director Troy Riggs, who proved to be all talk and no action after taking over for his controversial predecessor, Frank Straub, announced he's bailing out early. Apparently IUPUI has a bunch of money to blow with those skyrocketing tuition fees and created a six-figure make-work job for him in public safety research and outreach. IU's Public Policy Institute Director Mark Lawrance says the university found value in Riggs' "holistic approach" to public safety and crime prevention using data-driven resources." Have you ever noticed these guys always toss out the word "holistic" whenever they're trying to sound intelligent saying something that sets off the BS detector?

I knew this guy was a clown when he talked about being the first city in America to go to data driven policing. Business psychobabble. Riggs only plan was to leverage his title for personal gain. Mission accomplished. Of course, having to go into IUPUI every day is its own special brand of punishment. Have another donut Mr. Riggs. You're living the (Indy) dream.

Was this position at IUPUI posted?

Who's the head of the IUPUI department that hired Riggs? How did this person become a shill for the Marion County Republicans?

I believe Anon 1:27's take on Mr. Troy Riggs is accurate. I saw it the day the charlatan became Public Safety Director.

The rats are jumping the ship more quickly as it takes on more water made possible from the rust of corruption that's become the hallmark of the entire Greg Ballard administration.

We need to fill Riggs job with something more qualified. A bagel comes to mind!

Riggs was on Fox 59 News this morning boasting about how many job offers he had from all over the country that he turned down. One has to wonder how folks doing job searches conduct their due diligence. Riggs is full of himself. He's a poor leader with nothing to show for his work. Morale at IMPD sank even lower under his leadership than it was under Straub.

Anon 7:30, yes, Mr. Riggs is full of himself (like the corrupt Mayor who selected him) and for the life of me I don't know how persons like Riggs wiggle their way to cush, highly paid employment. Bragging about all the offers... and from "all over the country", huh? Really? Sorry, Troy old man... no way I am picking up what you are laying down.

    My suggestions:

    1. Fire the DPS Chief of Staff, a crony make-work, do-nothing patronage job created for the person who now has it.
    2. Replace the Fire & Police Chief with competent leaders.
    3. Replace the Homeland Security Chief and rename it Emergency Management, because that is what the department is for.
    4. Find an interim PSD. The current Deputy Director, Ms Washington is a competent person who could take the reins until the new administration.

  10. Deal is this. Riggs wasn't Heir Frank Straub. Straub was about as bad as it could get. What did Riggs do? Not much. He was muted by the Mayor and Hite did the laundry. What Riggs didn't do was hire the appropriate number of officers for this department. Incorporate a camera system. Come in line with CALEA standards, fully fund and outline the DPS focus areas, vacate the ROC and pandered to the religious community. Riggs did not know what he was getting into and once he was knee deep, couldn't do much due to his predecessor. Riggs was a solid character in an otherwise bad administration.
