Ballard Expected To Make Announcement On Future

Sources tell Advance Indiana that Mayor Greg Ballard is expected to announce shortly that he won't be seeking a third term as Indianapolis mayor next year as this blog has been telling you for months. The announcement could come as soon as this week. Stay tuned.

  1. If this is so as you've been reporting, then there is a God.

  2. Did the sources indicate who might be running for the GOP? Ike Randolph, Nike McQuillen, others?

  3. I previously mentioned J. Murray Clark, Jr. as a potential candidate.

  4. I know Murray would love to be Mayor but he has to know the numbers would be very much against his winning. I just can't see him doing it.

  5. Ben Hunter would be a worthy candidate, not that he's qualified, but rather he needs to be put in his place by the voters outside his district.

  6. If there is a God-don't let Ben Hunter's ego be THAT ginormous that he will enter the mayoral race because he believes all his own self generated, flattering PR that he is the world's answer to all its problems.

  7. Murray Clark certainly has the ego but, IMHO, offers
zero "realness" to attract Marion County voters after eight years of petulant, arrogant, exclusionary and aloof Ballard.

Clark as Republican candidate would cause a vortex of votes to the Democrat candidate who at this point is presumably Hogsett.

Let's face it... the MCRCC and the "GRAND" old party have inflicted so much damage to their brand [and they know it] that the very best candidate for this City who could overcome that damage and attract votes across every sector is Christine Scales.

But Kyle Walker and his masters at the MCRCC and the law firms would rather continue their mission to destroy her than support the one person who could be victorious.

  8. Murray would be an excellent choice. Experienced, a proven leader, someone with ideas and a pleasant personality - the antithesis of Ballard in every respect.

Fixing Ballard's Straubification of Indianapolis will not be done during most of our lifetimes....

The Regional Operations Center mess, Market Square property mess, Cricket Field, criminal justice center.....all failures and the cover-ups at taxpayer expense.

Murray is an establishment Republican insider from the past. He represents all that is wrong with the current local and state Republican party.

Pat must personally know Mr. Murray; I've only been able to view his speeches and backslapping at insider Republican events. I don't see him as one who is inviting to "other" types.

A "pleasant personality" is the criterion of electability? Obama generated buzz about his "pleasant personality" all the while being reported by those in the know as a cold fish. And so Murray has "ideas"??? Really. Ballard had ideas and that's worked out well, hasn't it?

Murray can ably connect with his establishment friends but he will never be capable at connecting with the Marion County electorate as it is today.

    1. Murray Clark is "Establishment" only inasmuch as he comes from families that are nobility of both GOP & Dems in Marion County. He was always principled as a State Senator, & he was good at raising money for the State Committee. I'd gladly vote for Murray for Mayor.

Anon 11:51: Ben Hunter is NOT a worthy candidate for Mayor!

Ben Hunter is synonymous with Straubification. -And look at the cover up involved in the Regional Operations Center and the fact public information was either destroyed (shredded) or concealed from public records requests....and the entire ROC deal stinks of political corruption.

  12. Ballard has to do something, quick, beucase you just put him in lame-duck status. Every day he waits to move is a day he holds his party back.

A Republican who wants the job should announce, right now, and not wait for Ballard to find a soft landing.

  13. Ballard's done. It can't be clearer. His people had over 24 hours to repudiate you, and they're stone silent.

They let your story run and get legs, and it's too late to reel it back in or walk away while saving face.

The problem for Ballard's lackeys is that all the important ones already got lifeboats. Everyone who tries to leave from here out is seen as disposable baggage.

Is anyone from the state media going to ask Ballard about the rumor?

    Anyone?

They should have been lining up outside his door, this morning.

Indy's media runs exactly like the press in "1984."
