I've heard reports from several people this weekend that walk-in voting at the City-County Building has been very heavy. The African-American turnout in walk-in voting has been noticeably larger than the white vote. People were being transported to the City-County Building this weekend to vote by church-owned vehicles. Andre Carson greeted many voters in person at the Clerk's office where voting was taking place. Marion Co. Clerk Beth White handed out complimentary candy suckers to voters while they waited in line. As for all the complaints you've heard about voters being disenfranchised because of Indiana's Voter ID requirement, it wasn't a problem for the large number of voters who voted in person this weekend. One observer noted that some voters had to be reminded to take with them the Voter ID they presented at the Clerk's office to vote.
On another note, Indiana Daily Insight reports that SEIU-COPE made a $150,000 independent expenditure to purchase TV ads for Carson's campaign. Just another piece of evidence of the extreme to which Carson auctioned off the 7th District seat to special interest groups. Never before in the history of 7th District congressional races have outsiders financed the campaign of a candidate to this extent. All of this for a young man who was an unknown, undistinguished career excise police officer until a few months ago. It's so emblematic of how perverted our political system has become.
UPDATE: At least 1,653 voters were bused in to vote at the CCB voting center by area churches over the weekend according to the Star.

All the more reason to help us out at Myers HQ tomorrow and Tuesday. We need help with our GOTV efforts, we need to make phone calls, we need to help people get to the polls, we need folks to look in on precincts and give us updates and much more. Call our office at 687-0707 if you can give us an hour or two of your time in the next 48 hours. Please help us counteract the Carson folks.
Vote Woody Myers
How ironic that she's be handing out 'suckers.'
Interestingly - I have had a Woody myers volunteer stop by a week ago or so and a Barack volunteer stop by today ( She may have stopped by after seeing my Myers yard sign ). I told the Barack volunter I already knew who I was voting for but thanked her for stopping by.
I have not heard from the Hillary or Carson campaign.
The Obama canvasers were out in full force this weekend. I even had one stop by my office Saturday afternoon. I had to explain to the nice young lady that that it was an office building. She said her list showed registered voters at the address of my office building.
I know we had an earthquake in Indiana a few days ago but I think that there was just a bigger one. I agree with almost everything you just wrote. Andre is going to prove that a well organized ground game can outdo 1.7 million dollars any day. Our congressional seat is not for sale. There are many reasons why Andre will win but you hit on some of them.
"Our congressional seat is not for sale."
Carson has already sold it. Art/Wilson knows it to be true.
Woody isn't done yet, he will get the republican cross over vote, Carson won't.
I remember when Mr. Padgett was a Libertarian. How do you go from that to supporting someone like Myers whose platform is nothing more than more and bigger government? I guess that's part for the course, I remember when Woody Myers used to be a Republican.

I did support Libertarian candidates in the past but did not always agree 100% with them on issues, especially on health care policy. Too many Libertarians run around crying about creeping socialism in our health care system but offer no solutions to the problems we all face with that issue. No one complains about socialist fire protection or socialist police protection. How about those socialist roads and highways? What about our completely socialist military?
Why isn't health care in this country handled like those issues are? Our trading partners subsidize their health care systems 100%, giving them an unfair trade advantage. As a free marketeer I have come to the conclusion the only way to level the playing field in the global marketplace is for our health care system to be fixed by someone like Dr. Myers who has been working on this issue for decades.
And another thing, when the Libertarians get serious about winning elections instead of being a debate society I may return to the fold. Until then, I am going to support independent minded candidates who understand how to win elections and who support the things in life I do.
What people lost sight of is the reason health care got so expensive in the first place....
AMBULANCE CHASING TRIAL LAWYERS!
How many nations with socialized medicine also have immunities in place banning civil court action against the health care system?
I wonder if the taxpayers paid for those suckers White was handing out.
I also wonder why she is so openly supporting one candidate?

Oh give it a rest. There is absolutely no evidence that malpractice lawyers have had any signficant effect on the cost of health care. This is just a lie spread by insurance companies who would love to see their costs come down but who will promise no change in return. I mean, look at Indiana - we've had a significant cap on malpractice awards for 30 years, plus a comprehensive pre-screening procedure for malpractice claims - but doctors in IN aren't paying much lower rates as a result.
Now there is something to what you say about European countries, but you completely misunderstand the cause and effect. European systems don't have big malpractice awards because they have socialized healthcare. Big malpractice awards tend to be big because the money is needed for future care. I.e., if the doctor's negligence causes the person to be brain damaged, or paralyzed, or whatever, millions of dollars are awarded because that's how much it will cost over the course of that person's life to care for them. (And the same is true about large personal injury awards). If, as in a socialized health care system, their medical needs will be taken care of anyway, the actual damages you can show that require recompense will be much much smaller.
SEIU-COPE, a Washington DC-based political action committee. Huh, what a surprise.

Since we are going to socialize health care, where doctors and nurses make a lot more money than cops and firefighters, are you saying Dr. Myers supports bringing firefighters and cops up to the pay level of at least hospital nurses? I know they usually make around $30/hr starting, get double, and sometimes triple time for over-time work, plus a lot more incentives.
As far as socialist health care, it is a joke. With Republican health care, the bumper sticker reads "Don't get sick." With Democrat health care, the bumper stickers will read "Don't get too sick." I support socialized health care only because if I want to quit my job and do nothing, I can now do that without having to worry about the government taking my home, with 50% equity, from me for health care. I love it when I can use other people's money to provide me with the incentive to now tell my employer to screw off any time I want. Plus, since I saved my money, I won't have to worry about the government coming in and taking my thousands of dollars in the bank when I bust my arm and am not working and don't have health care..because with socialist health care, everyone else will be paying for my medical bills.
Joh,
There is a big difference between a government function, like a military and building roads, and something like heatlh care. Your argument could be applied to any industry to permit it to be socialized.
I will give your candidate credit though. He's hands down the most qualified person in the race. Democrats have also fieldrf two other highly qualified candidates, Orentlicher and Mays, for the nomination. We haven't had Democrats nominate anyone as qualified as those three people in decades. Of course, you know what that means? The Democrats will pick Andre Carson, who is barely qualified to be a dogcatcher.
Flynn, I wish you would quit ragging on Andre...just say you dont like him and move on.....
"Now there is something to what you say about European countries, but you completely misunderstand the cause and effect. European systems don't have big malpractice awards"
..because you can't sue The Crown.
Ask any doctor - I've asked this question of Dr. John McGoff himself - many decisions made in the healthcare industry is NOT in the interest of best patient care, it's the fear of lawyers like Ken Nunn that's lurking around the corner that considers doctors and hospitals as their personal jackpots.
"Big malpractice awards tend to be big because the money is needed for future care."
Actually it's for the lawyers 50% of the take but thanks for trying.
So much for separation of church and state. Can't the black ministers just pray for the leaders of this country instead of campaigning for there favored candidates. Hmmm who do you think Jesus would have endorsed?
