A Johnson County magistrate today granted state Sen. Brent Waltz' request for a protective order against a political rival whom Waltz accuses of stalking him.
Johnson County Magistrate Richard L. Tandy issued the order against Greenwood resident Mike Beeles.
Waltz requested the protective order after accusing Beeles of stalking him as Beeles has tried to prove Waltz does not live in the Greenwood condominium listed as his official residence.
Beeles last week filed a challenge with the Indiana Election Commission questioning Waltz's residency in Senate District 36, which consists of parts of southern Marion County and northern Johnson County. Beeles said he plans to run against Waltz in the May 6 Republican primary. In issuing the protective order, Tandy cited three incidents which represented a threat to Waltz' safety.
According to the protective order, a man threatened in December to blow up the downtown Columbia Club where Waltz was supposedly staying the night.
The court document states that a male called Waltz' parents between Dec. 15 and Dec. 25, stating "that he knew (Waltz) was at the Columbia Club and that he was not a resident of Greenwood, and that further he was going to blow up the Columbia Club."
Beeles said he first heard about the Columbia Club when talking to his lawyer yesterday.
"I know nothing about it," Beeles said of the downtown club. "I don't know his parents."
Waltz also states in the protective order that on at least five occasions he was followed by Beeles in Johnson County and potentially Marion County. Waltz also claims Beeles used a ladder to look into his condo and take photographs.
In the order, Tandy ruled that stalking has occurred against Waltz and that Beeles represents a credible threat to the safety of Waltz. Tandy ordered Beeles to stay away from Waltz's residence and place of employment and prohibited Beeles from contacting Waltz for the next 90 days. Beeles has 30 days to request a hearing, which he said he would do today.
"It's a political stunt," he said of Waltz's protective order. "There is no evidence that I have ever followed him. This has all been second-hand information."
Well, I guess that means Waltz won't have to appear at any candidate forum with Beeles to discuss the issues befor the primary. This really smacks of taking advantage of the legal system. If someone had truly called and made such a threat two months ago against Waltz, why wasn't there a police report or any mention of the incident in the news? What a joke.
UPDATE: Advance Indiana can confirm from a city source that Mike Beeles is employed as a street supervisor for IndyGo. An investigation is being undertaken by IndyGo's human resources office to determine if Beeles engaged in any of the alleged conduct during his normal work hours. Note that IndyGo is still run by Gil Holmes, a holdover from the Peterson administration. Mayor Ballard has no direct control over any hiring, firing or other employment-related matters involving IndyGo. IndyGo is governed by a 7-member board made up of three mayoral and four council appointees. Ballard is in the process of making his first appointments to the board.

Waltz is really going after Beeles for daring to run against him. I heard he's already contacted the Ballard administration to try to get him fired from his job at IndyGo.
I just want to know if Beeles owns a Guy Fawkes mask.
This story has been covered well by The Daily Journal. Beeles has changed his story three times. Suggest you check the Journal coverage.
I thought that about the only place in central Indiana where stuff like this went on was Lawrence....
Regardless Beeles gets a hearing on his request. Then it can backlash Waltz when no credible evidence is produced that implicates Beeles. The voter can sure see the ploy and knows the story now. When someone comes up with Waltz having sex with the Mayor's goat (old political proverb: Never get caught having sex with the Mayor's goat) i.e. photos of him at a gay bar in Louisville, Cincinnati, Pakistan, etc. or even him in drag, his days with Eric Miller would be numbered regardless of his votes.
If this guy or anyone else has been following Waltz that much then there must be some really interesting photos available. Some could probably be sold and some just might make it to the internet.
I really do miss Larry Borst. Neither of these idiots deserve to be any where near the State House.
Blow up the Columbia Club? Why? It's deteriorating fine on its own.
LMAO, 5:16...The Columbia Club has the best corn chowder in North America. And the snootiest membership rolls.
Who misses Larry Borst? Not me. Waltz is better, by a tad. For two reasons:
1. That old Senate gang that stonewalled budgets--Garton, Harrison, Richard Miller, Borst--are all gone. Together they had like 120 years of Senate service. Seriously. Which is about 100 years too many. It was high time they left. If they could drag Lindel Hume and few other dinosaurs along with them, we'd all be better off.
2. If Waltz weren't there, we couldn't make fun of him, and that's about the only excitement in the Senate. That, and finding pins to stick in my Pat Miller doll.
And move over to the House, and the list of FWNTG (Folks Who Need To Go) gets much logner and much more bipartisan.
But I digress...
Just wrote a blog entry that needs to not be considered for publication due to the following error: Brent Waltz DID NOT go to high school with Eric Miller, the Indianapolis attorney/politician referred to by Missouridemocrat. Brent Waltz did go to high school with another Eric Miller and I do not know if they were friends or not.
My parents will turn over in their graves but I think this November that I am going to have to vote for a Democrat for this office....two wackos runnng for the repubican nomination.............
To update this blogger, Waltz did get Beeles fired from his City Job, the good news is that Beeles won his case in court, proving Waltz did not live were he said he was living, also it was proven that Beeles did not stalk Waltz. my question is why the State did not go after Waltz ?????
Mike Beels works for a package company.. His employer paid for the funeral and was going to pay for headstone but the Beels said they wanted too which to this day isn't one...bet he didn't tell his employer his son was the reason for Gabes death nor did he tell him he was a violent sex offender...the whole family is in denial.. I mean I know it would be hard to swallow but they should make him man up and let his son rest in peace and do his time for this horrific crime
